What does Proposition 65 signify?

In 1986, California residents voted in favor of Proposition 65, a measure set in motion to tackle the rising concerns over toxic chemical exposure. This measure is called the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986. As per this law, California is mandated to release a list of chemicals identified as carcinogens or reproductive toxins.

This compilation presently enumerates over 900 chemicals. Proposition 65 doesn't impose a ban or set limits on the sale of listed chemicals. Instead, these warnings aim to assist Californians in making educated choices regarding their contact with these chemicals, stemming from products they utilize and environments they frequent.

The Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) oversees the Proposition 65 initiative.
